About the Parish of Braithwell
In 1822, the Parish of Braithwell comprised:
- Braithwell , a parish-town, in the upper-division of Strafforth and Tickhill; 5 miles from Tickhill, 6 miles NE. of Rotherham, 8 from Doncaster, 45 from York, Population 438. The Church is a vicarage, dedicated to St. James, in the deanry of Doncaster, value,£7 7s. 6d. parish rate, £70. Patron, the King.
- Bramley in the parish of Braithwell, upper-division of Strafforth and Tickhill; Bramley Hall, the seat of John Fullarton, Esq.situated 4 miles E. of Rotherham, 10 from Doncaster. Population 310. Here is a Chapel of Ease to Braithwell.
- Bramley Grange , in the parish of Braithwell, and wapentake of Strafforth and Tickhill; 4 miles east of Rotherham.
- Lambcote Grange, a farm-house in the township and parish of Braithwell, liberty of Tickhill;
5 miles from Tickhill. Robert, grandson of Nicholas Bellamy of Markham, was in 1570 seated at Lambcote
Grange, Stainton, a grange of the neighbouring Abbey of Roche.
- Micklebring, in the township and parish of Braithwell, upper division of Strafforth and Tickhill; 5½ miles E. of Rotherham, 9 from Doncaster.
Situated on Fish Pond Lane. Stainton, Lambcote grange is first mentioned in 1186 when it was given to Roche Abbey by Richard de Bulli. The main part of the present house is dated 1747, the rear wing is earlier and was probaly built in the late 16th-early 17th century. The building has been altered in the 20th century. The 1747 range is built of ashlar magnesian limestone and has a cement tile roof, the rear wing is pebble-dashed and has a Welsh slate roof. The earlier part of the house is of two-storeys and the 1747 range is of three-storeys.
William Wasteneys, late of Conisborough, married Mary Mirfin, only child and heiress under the will of
Joseph Purslove. They were at Lambcote in 1791
Lambcote Grange estate,was for sale by auction in 1888
The Toone family occupied the grange and the Pursloves.
Marian Fawcett, was born here in 1884
