FIRST AID
The Wickersley First Aid Party was formed in April 1939, with the object of rendering first aid and saving life in the event of air raids, The party consisted of 9 men and 14 women all fully trained in First Aid and Anti-Gas.
The headquarters on the formation of the party were in the Church Barn. On this building being requisitioned by the military the party moved to a small house on Bawtrv Road. This being to small, the White Swan was taken over to accommodate the First Aid and Rescue Parties.
The First Aid Party practised several nights each week, arranged indoor and outdoor demonstrations, did 'stand-by' duties and reported on alerts.
Towards the end of the War, the First Aid and Rescue Parties amalgamated under Commandant B. Henson, Deputy Commandants P. Mellor and A. Reed.
The womens section continued independently under Mrs. Wingfield.
The Wickersley First Aid Party was thoroughly efficient and could have been relied on in any emergency.
